It is more soluble than chlorophyll ''a'' in polar solvents because of its carbonyl group. Its color is yellow, and it primarily absorbs blue light.〔(photosynthesis pigments )〕 In land plants, the light-harvesting antennae around photosystem II contain the majority of chlorophyll ''b''.
